Hefner, Ph.D. is a partner in our San Diego office. Dr. Hefner specializes in intellectual property matters related to the biotechnology, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries. Dr. Hefner’s practice includes the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, IP portfolio management, counseling related to patent infringement and patent validity issues and intellectual property due diligence. He represents clients in a wide range of technologies, including microarray technologies, biomolecule and small molecule therapeutics, cell-based therapeutics, modified release pharmaceutical formulations, and drug target discovery and validation. Dr. Hefner received his Doctor of Philosophy in Genetics and Cell Biology from Washington State University in 1998 for his work related to the molecular biology and enzymology of natural product biosynthesis. In particular, Dr. Hefner’s work involved the characterization of genes, enzymes and chemical intermediates involved in the biosynthesis of the anticancer agent, Taxol®. Dr. Hefner joined the firm in 2001 and became partner in 2007.
