Applied Medical Resources Corp. v. United States Surgical Corp., 353 F. Supp. 2d 1075 (C.D. Cal. 2004) The firm represented a medical device manufacturer, Applied Medical, who owned a patent on a trocar seal. After trial, the jury awarded $43.5 million and a found that Tyco-Unit U.S. Surgical had willfully infringed the patent. The Court upheld the verdict, enhanced the damages and awarded attorney's fees due to the willfulness of the infringement, and entered a final judgment of $64.5 million. |
