The firm’s philosophy is to hire only those associates who possess the qualities necessary to become partner and to offer partnership to its lawyers early in their careers. The firm expects and hopes that every associate will one day become a partner.

Knobbe Martens does not hire more summer associates than the number of full-time associate offers it expects to extend, and does not hire more associates than it expects to eventually make partner. This philosophy, which has always guided the firm, creates an atmosphere that encourages associates to develop in all aspects of the practice of law as early as possible in their careers. Associates often have contact with clients, and are encouraged to assume responsibility for client matters, exploring and learning different practice areas and finding opportunities to build their own expertise and reputation, both within and outside the firm.

Knobbe Martens encourages all of its associates to become well-rounded lawyers who recognize that a fulfilling, life-long legal career is based on the satisfaction of creating value for and solving the problems of clients, producing excellent work and developing interests outside of the office. All of the firm’s lawyers are encouraged to become active and assume leadership roles in legal and business organizations. They are also encouraged to write articles, teach and seek out speaking opportunities. Associates are encouraged to begin building their careers soon after joining the firm. To assist with this process, associates are assigned a partner-mentor to facilitate their professional growth and development.
