Special Employment Notice to Disabled Veterans, Vietnam Era Veterans, Other Protected Veterans,

U.S. Government contractor are subject to 38 USC 2012 of the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Act of 1974 which requires that they take affirmative action to employ and advance in employment qualified disabled veterans of the Vietnam Era, and Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, which requires government contractors to take affirmative action to employ and advance in employment qualified handicapped individuals.

A special disabled veteran means a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Department of Veteran Affairs for a disability: rated at 30% or more or rated at 10% or 20% in the case of a veteran who has been determined under 38 U.S.C. 3106 to have a serious employment handicap or a person who is discharged or released from active duty because of a service connected disability.

A veteran of Vietnam era means a veteran who served on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service for a period of more than 180 days, and who was discharged or released therefrom with other than a dishonorable discharge, if any part of such active duty was performed: in the Republic of Vietnam between 2/28/61 and 5/7/75 or between 8/5/64 and 5/7/75 in any other location or who is discharged or released from active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service for a service connected disability within the above time frames.

Other protected veteran means any other veteran who served on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service during a war or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized, other than special disabled veteran and veteran of the Vietnam Era.
